Prepping, Pricing & Tagging

Tips for pricing your items to $ELL

Remember, the idea is to get unused/unwanted stuff OUT of the house.

Think to yourself, “What would I pay for this item?”

Below are some pricing suggestions. This is only a guideline. YOU, as the consignor, determine your sale prices. Price competitively!
Common name brands (Gymboree, Children’s Place, OshKosh, Carter’s, etc) will sell at 40-80% off retail. Higher end brand (LL Bean, boutique clothes, etc) will sell higher, while store brands (Target, Wal-Mart, etc) may sell lower. Items that are unique, new, like new or in demand will sell priced in the higher range. Items that may be present in large quantities (ex. NB-2Tsizes or Boppys) may sell a little lower.
Spending a little extra time prepping your items (ex. Ironing clothing, scrubbing outdoor equip, etc) can often help you get the price you want and sell YOUR item, especially if there are several similarly priced items!

40-80% of retail

Common name brands will sell at this amount. Higher end brand will sell higher, while store brands may sell lower.

*Play/Active-wear clothing will typically sell for less than dressier items.
*Toys must include all pieces AND batteries, if needed.
*Large Items are hot sellers! Large/Plastic toys can vary greatly in pricing due to overall condition: sun fading, wear, cleanliness, features, etc. Scrubbing those outdoor toys and giving them a coat of Armor-All will really refresh its look. It might be helpful to consult ebay, Craigslist or look up original retail value to help determine a competitive price.

$1.00 Minimum

No items may be priced below $1.00. Items may be grouped to increase sale price.

Hanging Shirts

  • Hang clothing on appropriately sized hangers with the hook pointing to the LEFT when you are facing it.
  • Make a question mark (?) with the hanger as you face the front of the item. (Wire hangers are preferred but not required.)
  • Child sized hangers work best for NB-size 2T. Use adult hangers for larger sizes.
  • Use regular size or larger safety pins to attach items to the hanger. PLEASE secure your clothing to hangers. (Tiny gold safety pins or clothes pins will not hold.)
  • ATTACH TAG TO UPPER LEFT CORNER OF GARMENT as seen in pic. Tag will be on the RIGHT if you are LOOKING AT the clothing item.

Hanging Pants

  • Safety pin to the TOP portion of hanger, narrowly at the waistband.
  • Attach safety pin as close to hook as possible, so item does not slide on hanger!
  • Zip-ties/cable ties work great for jeans or anything with belt loops!
  • ATTACH TAG TO UPPER LEFT CORNER OF GARMENT  as seen in pic. Tag will be on the RIGHT if you are LOOKING AT the clothing item.

Hanging Two Piece Outfits

  • Place shirt on the hanger.
  • Safety pin pants/skirt/shorts at the waistband to the shoulders of the shirt with garments pinned back-to-back.
  • Make sure that both items are visible.
  • ATTACH TAG TO UPPER LEFT CORNER OF GARMENT as seen in pic. Tag will be on the RIGHT if you are LOOKING AT the clothing item.

Hanging Misc. Items

  • Hats, gloves, belts, purses, accessories may be bagged or have tag pinned to item.
  • Backpacks and baby slings should be hung on hangers.  Diaper bags will not require a hanger.
  • Receiving blankets, afghans, sheets, toddler blankets, sleeping bags, snuggies and hooded towels can be HUNG. Fold over a heavy duty hanger and secure with safety pins. Tag is placed in upper right corner, hanger hook is facing left (same as with clothing).
  • SHOES: Attach the shoes together in such a way they will not come apart. This can best be accomplished by using a small zip tie.  Using a large safety pin or tying with ribbon or yarn (knotted) also works well. Safety pin the consignment tag to the laces or ribbon, or tape tag to bottom of sole of shoe with packing tape.

Toys

Package toys with small pieces or directions in a clear, sealed bag. Toys with multiple pieces can have the sealed bag securely attached to the toy or inside a compartment with clear packing tape.  SEAL BAGS SHUT WITH PACKING TAPE.

LARGE toys that are too big to fit under the table: LOOSELY attache your consignor tag to the item. At drop off, we will add a claim ticket and attach the consignor tag to it.
